Welcome to Charlotte Hammill Psychotherapy
Registered Psychotherapist
M.A. Counselling Psychology

Welcome
I have worked in the social and community services field for almost 10 years. My love for this work and connecting with others, as well as curiosity about my own mental health and relationships, led me to pursue a career as a psychotherapist. I completed my undergraduate degree at Western University in London, ON and continued on to my M.A. in Education and Counselling Psychology at the the University of Ottawa.
My primary approach to therapy incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, an evidence-based intervention for mental health issues (i.e., anxiety, depression, low-self-esteem, social anxiety, ADHD, body image or eating disturbance, substance use) with a holistic perspective on wellness which explores the physical self (i.e., sleep, nutrition, exercise), emotional self, and the spiritual self (i.e., sense of connectedness). I also offer targeted trauma interventions such as Written Exposure Therapy for those experiencing post traumatic stress symptoms. Together, we explore your personal story to establish therapeutic needs and set achievable goals. I primarily work with teens (14+) and adults (18-65).

Mental health can feel complicated...
Our mental health is nested within a network of complicated relationships or life experiences that are not black and white. In session, we explore issues from a narrative perspective to see how your personal story has developed over time. We then take time to explore the ways in which you might begin to shift your narrative in a direction you desire. As humans, we are quick to believe the worst of ourselves or underestimate our capacity to change. Therapy can help you grasp a clearer understanding of how you might be standing in your own way or help you address barriers that are. Therapy is often emotionally difficult and can bring up emotions such as pain, sadness, anger, grief, detachment, and discomfort. However, working through those types of emotions is precisely why therapy is so beneficial - it allows you to safely reconnect with yourself. I offer a safe, confidential, and judgement free space to explore anything that may arise. I tend to be a humorous person by nature, and try to make room for this in session as a way to connect.
